This is what is called an arithmetic sequence. An arithmetic sequence adds the same number every time. If we take and subtract the 3rd term from the 4th term, we get 21. However, when we subtract 17 from 26 or 26 from 44, we get 9 and 18 respectively, which is not in keeping with the sequence.
