The correct answer is "The number was probably never encoded in the first place."

There are three stages in learning and in the memory process, they are known as encoding, storage and retrieval according to Melton. During the encoding stage, it is the time where learning begins, encoding data little by little, if information hasn't been encoded then it will be impossible for a person to remember or to learn it.
